Healthy Communities
Sage has worked with local schools to develop a programme to develop healthy communities, through the following key elements.
Building a Healthy Curriculum Schools and Sage recognise that to bring real and long-lasting change the transformation of services and delivery needs to accompany community interventions. Sage will fund programmes to ensure that healthy communities becomes an integral part of school delivery in terms of the curriculum and teaching and non-teaching staff skills.
Supporting Families We also recognise that to bring about sustained change in individual children’s lifestyles, it is essential that parents and carers are on board. Sage will target some of our current family support worker programme to helping to develop healthy communities and supporting families of children participating in the Active through Doing element.
Active through Doing This element of the programme started with consultation with local children, with over 500 local children filling in questionnaires, from which their priorities were identified. After the questionnaires, a Children’s Collaborative meeting was held, which was attended by 35 children. They were asked in more depth about the findings of the questionnaire. The Children's Collaboratives have continued to meet regularly.
Individual Goals Sage realised that whilst individual activities are fun for children, the most positive strategy is to genuinely give children support to develop their self esteem and confidence. As a result, each child was asked to come up with their Individual Goals, in the key areas of Learning, Family, Friends and Health.
Cookery Classes Sage has been running very popular cookery classes for local families. Click on your favourite below to look at the recipes.
