Family Matters

Sage Educational Trust does not work exclusively with children, but recognises the importance of involving all members of the family, indeed, all members of the community. As a result, Sage has developed and run various community and family support projects, as well as extending some projects, such as eDemocracy, to include adult family members.

Sage has recently secured funding as part of the Government’s ‘Invest to Save’ budget for a three year ‘Family Matters Neighbourhood Charter’ Programme to be based in Downham and Bellingham.

The idea for Sage’s proposal grew out of previous work with Families in Partnership (FiP), a project working with parents and children in local schools. FiP has been helping to support local parents and children across a wide range of issues such as education, behaviour management and health and social development. They also do a lot of work in Sage schools, with pupils that have low attendance or poor punctuality.

Recognising the importance of this work, Sage’s Director, Delena Davison, said that "Sage’s previous work has highlighted the importance of involving local parents, as they have such an in-depth knowledge of the community’s needs and priorities. The Family Matters Neighbourhood Charter will harness this knowledge and energy to the best advantage of the local community."

Local children and their families are being asked to lead the project, by identifying priority areas that they want to see addressed. The links below give further information on the work so far:
