International Day at Downderry
Towards the end of the summer term Downderry School
held an International Day, which started with an assembly presented
by EMAS (Ethnic Minority Achievement Strategy) children and some
of their friends. They reflected on how it must feel to be a refugee
and on ways they could help children feel welcome and settle into
the school environment quickly. Some children spoke movingly of
their own experiences of leaving their country of birth.
Throughout the day each year group researched a
country of their choice and many cooked delicious food from their
chosen country. In the afternoon stalls were set up in the hall
and after school everyone was invited to come and sample the food
and look at the fabulous displays. A great time was had by all!
